What is Boxercise?
Boxercise is an exercise class based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but a typical one may involve skipping, hitting pads, using punch bags, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups. My Boxercise classes are aimed at men and women of all ages and fitness standards. As no class involves the physical hitting of an opponent, it is a fun, challenging and safe workout for everyone.
Whatever your size, shape or fitness levels are, my Boxercise class will suit you. Remember, every boxer will have started from ground level, so anyone and everyone can work their way up to a good level of fitness; attend classes regularly and you’ll be fit in no time. You’ll gain physical improvements, and many psychological results too. Most people don’t know what to expect, so going into a class is the first step. You don’t have want to be the next Mike Tyson to do Boxercise, many attendees do not have any experience in boxing either, and they come along because it’s a thrilling, fun and different way to achieve their fitness goals. The classes will be hard, there’s no doubt about it, however we can promise that they’ll always be fun and have a friendly but challenging atmosphere.
What are ‘Pads’ and what do I do?
Pad work is essential in boxing classes not only does it keep every class entertaining, it also keeps people on their toes, and adding to their skills as boxers as well as their ability to co-ordinate and to time punches in certain combinations. Monday night classes feature Liam on the pads, who is a great ‘pad man’; friendly, knowledgeable and always looking to help. He’ll be looking to keep you on your toes, even if you’re a weathered boxer or a beginner simply starting out. Liam says, “As the pad instructor, my favourite part is watching the members develop both their fitness and form each week. It’s certainly smiles all round when the pads are getting hit and I know it’s something that people in the class really enjoy digging deep with. I like pushing people the extra mile and proving to them that with plenty of focus and dedication, anything is possible!”
What do I get out of Boxercise?
Not only will your strength, power, and cardiovascular fitness improve. You’ll also increase your discipline, release any aggression, see improvements in focusing energy and concentration, strengthen muscles, improve core strength, increase stamina, improve hand-eye coordination, and increases mental agility too. Training through boxing also stimulates your mind, and boosts your self-belief whilst also helping to build self-esteem!
So, if you’re worried or nervous about stepping into the madness of a Boxercise class, please don’t be! Take my word for it, as soon as you’re in the class you’ll love it! Try it for yourself, come to the class on a Monday evening at 6pm!
