Do away with tight hip flexors:
Hip flexors are a group of muscles at the top of the thigh connecting your hip to your upper leg. These muscles are used in virtually every movement. They are called Hip Flexors because they create flexion in the hip, ie. the bending movement around a joint in a limb that decreases the angle between the bones of the limb at the joint.
In a society where more and more of us find ourselves spending our day sitting down, tight hip flexors are becoming a problem. It’s unclear exactly what causes tight hip flexors but they are definitely inconvenient! Ever been in a class doing the cool down section and the ones focusing on your hip flexors cause you the most pain? Then give the following stretches a go and see if they help.
Hip flexor stretch-Start in a lunge position with both knees on the floor. Lean forward into your front leg and push forward until you feel the stretch through the top of the thigh. Hold for around 30 seconds and then release.
Walking knee hug– Stand with both feet firmly on the ground. Raise one leg and bring the knee up to the chest and pull this leg in, hold for thirty seconds and then release and perform on the opposite side.
