Flexitarian Diet?
What’s the harm in cutting down on the quantity of meat you eat? Not only does eating more plant-based
meals help you cut down on the calories, but it also reduces cholesterol and blood pressure. The risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer also drops too.
The vegetables, legumes, and whole grains that will replace the meat help shield you from developing these chronic diseases.
Shopping for substitutes which can replace meat in many dishes is a good start. Mushrooms, beans and chickpeas are just some of the many alternatives. You can also combine proteins, simply half your normal size of chicken breast or steak and add half plant protein. Bacon and sausages are the ones to avoid, full of sodium, fat and preservatives.
How did you do? It’s time to step it up a notch.
This time, look to have a few vegetarian plates. Instead of your usual morning eggs, opt for a bowl of oats with some fruit and nuts. Or maybe even avocado toast with a little chia seeds is more to your taste.
For lunch, try and widen your options… if you haven’t attempted Falafel in a pita, I highly recommend it! It’s also not hard to slightly tweak your dinner after a workout. Instead of having beef mince with your spaghetti, use Quorn instead. With your stir fry, instead of chicken opt for Tofu.
Enjoyed it? Make it a routine. Watch the health benefits make their entrance!
