What is glute activation and why should you be doing it?
Our glutes play a key role in everyday life. Everytime we sit down, squat and even walk we utilise our glute muscles. Whilst training your glutes well will have its perks, it will also help with functionality. Strengthening your glutes will help to improve your overall posture, the more you use your glute muscles properly when exercising, the less strain your lower back and knees take.
How to get those glutes going:
- Say hello to the Stairmaster. We have two within our gym and they are a great piece of equipment. You can either walk up as normal, side step up, skip a step or even skip a step and kick the leg back.
- Side step with a resistance band. Place a resistance band around your ankles and step to either side.
- Glute bridge with a band. Sit on the floor in front of a bench with a resistance band just below your knees, sit with your back to the bench. Drive through your heels and lift your hips to form a straight line from shoulders to knees, lower back down slowly.
