So for those of you who haven’t met me before, I’m Sarah and have worked at my Fitness Hub since April 2018. You’ll find me in my comfort zone, upstairs, behind a computer, doing the more behind the scenes stuff in the gym. Until January of this year I have not used a gym for about 10 years! Shock horror I know. Not being slim or toned, I have previously found gym environments to be quite intimidating, to the point where I nearly didn’t turn up for my interview, crazy right?! I have 2 beautiful children and between working, school runs, after school activities, running a home and everything else life throws at you as a mum, I just didn’t have time for the gym….or so I thought.
After working here for a while, I realised just how friendly and supportive My Fitness Hub is. Over Christmas I had a few personal things going on that made me question myself and I felt pretty low, I gave myself 2 options, dwell or excel, and I chose the later.
There is such an atmosphere of positivity and encouragement at the gym so I decided to make use of my membership and I hit the gym. I had NO idea what I was doing at all and my first session was just trying out some of the equipment here. My second visit, Darcy one of our Instructors gave me an Induction so I could use more of the equipment effectively and I started to feel like I wasn’t floundering quite as much. My third visit, I had a programme written for me by Lizzie. This was really the start for me, I had direction and motivation. I came away that day aching, exhausted and so so happy. My most recent love is Boxing. Duncan has recently started giving me boxing sessions which is incredible for my fitness and confidence.
Who knew being in the gym could give me such a buzz.
I have now been training for a few months and haven’t looked back. Every session gives me such a sense of achievement and accomplishment and gradually I am noticing changes over time with my body. Coming to the gym gives me so much more than just fitness, it helps me focus, has improved my energy levels, given my mind the refocus it needed, and I’ve made so many more friends, everyone here is so supportive. I was making excuses as to why I wasn’t going to the gym, no time-no energy, but it was because it was so out of my comfort zone, now I kick myself and think why didn’t I take the plunge sooner.
Any one who is nervous about the gym environment should take the plunge and come in!!
We offer a free induction and a free programme so you’re not left wondering what to do, and there are so many people here to help get you started on your journey. It has made a monumental impact on my mental well being and I would recommend exercise to everyone.
