Bar positioning– If you position the bar too high on your neck this can change your alignment as you squat and cause a tilt that will put pressure on the base of the neck./ Whilst bar positioning is determined by body structure holding it too high can cause pain.
Ankle flexibility– Lack of ankle flexibility will be detrimental to your range whilst squatting. IT can also lead to a round back and a forward tilt meaning you use your glutes and quads less for the movement.
Engage your core– whilst squatting your back should be straight and your core engaged. This prevents your torso collapsing under the weight of your bar.
Don’t rely on a weightlifting belt! Weightlifting belts can be great for a bit of extra support if you are aiming for a heavy lift but you shouldn’t always be using one. Using the belt won’t allow you to utilise your core strength and your squat progression will be delayed as a result.
