My Fitness Hub’s Duncan Teasdale taking on world-famous Marathon Des Sables in aid of local charity

The Director of My Fitness Hub, Duncan Teasdale is preparing to take on the grueling challenge of the Marathon des Sables in aid of The Rowans Hospice in April this year.

Duncan, from Portsmouth has previously tackled other competitive races from the local Great South Run, to the extremes of the 100km ‘Biel Running Days’ Marathon in Switzerland, but the Marathon des Sables will be the most challenging race yet, by far.

The Marathon des Sables takes place in the Sahara Desert, with runners taking on 254km in six days, whilst temperatures range between 40-50°C. During the race – where water is rationed daily – Duncan must be completely self-sufficient, carrying all food, sleeping gear and other equipment that he’ll need over the six stage race. With a backpack weighing roughly 7.5kg, Duncan will be on his feet for between 8-12 hours per day as he makes his way across the harsh Desert terrain, with the longest stage of the race covering a massive 85km, which will see Duncan on his feet for up to 18 hours!

Duncan, who also turns 60 in April, has been undertaking a grueling training regime for the last few months, but feels very positive about the mammoth challenge ahead.

“Raising money for The Rowans Hospice is such a motivation to succeed. Having seen the amazing work carried out by the nurses and staff, I’ll be doing my very best to put in a positive performance and to help raise both awareness and donations for such an inspiring local charity.”
